Today, I’m interviewing a work from home mom who is doing some amazing things. I met Holly when I started my diaper cakes business years ago. She is and continues to be very resourceful when it comes to finding legitimate work at home jobs, leads and etc. I’m grateful that she took the time out of her busy schedule as a wife and mom and all the other tasks that need her attention. I can tell you from experience that being a work from home mom is no walk in the park, but it can be done with the right system in place and the right support system. Every other Friday, I will be interviewing various moms who are making extra money by doing various work from home jobs and sharing tips with you on how you can do the same!

Tell me a little bit about yourself
I’ve been a work from home mom since December of 2007. I looked long and hard for a work-at-home job, but along the way, all I encountered was marketing schemes, scams, and poorly executed resources. After nine months of searching, I finally landed a freelance marketing gig through a friend of mine. While I thoroughly enjoyed my freelance job, I kept thinking about all of the other women out there who were looking for legitimate work-at-home opportunities and employment, so I decided to start my blog, The Work at Home Woman in March of 2009. Over the years, my blog has grown, and today I work it full-time. I’ve never been happier in my career, and I make way more money than I ever did when I worked as a nurse (my pre-stay-at-home career).

When & how did you make your first $1,000 in your business?
It took me two months to get my first paid blog advertiser, and from there, my blog earnings grew slowly. It took me approximately a year to start earning $700 a month from my blog. But, I was also working my freelance marketing job which was my primary bread and butter, and my daughter was still at home with me, so I only worked part-time. Once she went off to kindergarten, I focused more time on my business and eventually quit my freelance gig. Today I make six-figures a year.
Share how you make extra money?
I have diversified my blogging income in a variety of ways, from affiliate marketing and direct ad sales to working with an ad network (AdThrive) and sponsorship campaigns. I also geek out on finding new ways to make money, so I’m always trying out new smartphone apps, online selling platforms, and digital earning opportunities.
What Inspired you to be a Rockstar Mommy Maven?
Well, first and foremost I fell into a career that I absolutely LOVE. My job never feels like work, and I never dread Monday mornings. Secondly, I never gave up. Even though I’ve had my fair share of failures along the way, and my progress was slow, I never let that stop me from moving forward. I think it also helps that I love learning and trying new things.
What advice would you give to other moms wanting to work from home?
I know this advice has been given a lot, but, it’s so true — just do it. Don’t let fear stand in the way of your dreams. Yes, it can be a scary and bumpy road, but you’ll never regret trying and you just may find your true calling.
